Diary of a fireman/ secondman/ driver based at Dundee.

Sunday 27 May 1990: Called in for buckshee turn, 07:20 1J56 to Edinburgh, 150262 + 150228. 11:20 1J55 150250 + 150283.

27 May 1990 saw Jim driving officially for the final time on the mainline. A career spanning 6 decades, he saw colossal change in his time & has a list of traction driven that modern day drivers & enthusiasts can only dream of.

On his final day Derek's oldest brother, who has now sadly also passed, met him at Edinburgh Waverley and took some photos of the final run.

Arrival at platform 3 saw him greeted by a few colleagues amongst them Ian Doswell. In the window of the unit can be seen the reflection of his guard Willie Mitchell - in a quirk of fate Derek is now a colleague of Willie's brother Charlie at Dundee SC. www.flickr.com/photos/derek...
